EVERYTHING IS ART, RIGHT?

We all are missing our home church and so I tried to figure out what exactly I could do to have a piece of it here. We sang the Doxology at the beginning of every service and so this art was born. You guys, I really loved it before I painted on the words. The letters, however, are so wonky, so misshapen, so not awesome. I attempted a stencil cut with my Silhouette and failed so badly with the vinyl so I had to wing it. Whatever, I paid good money for that canvas and those words mean a lot to us even if they look like my 8 year old wrote them. I ran to Home Depot, bought some lattice wood, painted it and nailed it to the sides to frame it out a little bit. It looks less child-created with the frame.

Attempt two at a painted canvas went better. I used card-stock for the stencil instead of vinyl. I cut my words out and traced on to the canvas with a pencil. I then painted over the pencil and filled in the words. I painted lattice wood and nailed it to the side of the canvas. Voila! This piece went in the boys’ loft. We love reminders to be kind in our home.

These pieces aren’t perfect and they probably wouldn’t even sell at a garage sale BUT both the words on both pieces mean a lot to us as a family. And hey, everything is art, right? I am so trained to make things perfect that there were a lot of times I was ready to give up and throw the Doxology to the curb. My husband saved me from myself, though, and while I’m still learning to love the piece, I’m glad we have the words on the wall.
