SUMMER BUCKET LIST // 2014

This year’s bucket list was compiled in March when it was seriously like -60 wind chill. Okay, so it probably wasn’t that in March but we did hit that low over the winter. It was brutal. BRUTAL. We gathered in the living room, probably gazing at 12 inches of snow out our window, and thought of all the sweet, sweet activities summer would bring us; swimming, beaches, vacation, living schedule free. Ah, heaven. It also brought about my husband donating a kidney but that’s a story for another day.

We scaled our bucket list back a bit this year. With a new baby hanging around, and my husband losing an organ, we thought it best not to overdo it. We also gave ourselves permission to leave Baby at home (well supervised of course) for some of our adventures. This is the first year we will accomplish our bucket list. Truth. We overdid it a bit the past two years and while we have not totally completed our list, we will. Summer is not out for the count around here. We will be camping in a few weeks and will be sure to squeeze in fishing, swimming lessons (already signed up!), and launching a soda rocket before September is over. Here is photo evidence of all our amazing adventures this summer. What amazing memories we will have from all our little (and big!) adventures.

I love our bucket lists. I mean really love them. I’ve heard people comment, “Yeah we do those things anyway. We don’t need a list.” Or, “Let kids be little. Why all the activities?” Good comments, friends. Our bucket lists have become a family tradition and our kiddos look forward to them. They ask to plan it out in the dead of winter, when all we have is the anticipation of summer. They love to see all our future adventures up on the wall and they love to see the pictures of the adventures after we’ve finished. We strike a good balance for our family. We plan small activities that we can do on the fly but we plan for big ones, too. It’s helpful for us to know our kids want to pick strawberries again because otherwise it’s July and we’ve missed the season. It’s become one of our “things” and if it’s not yours, that’s okay. Do you, my friends.

Hello! I’m Jennifer.

I'm a momma to three amazing boys and a wife to a husband that's pretty perfect, too. What will you find here? Well, I mostly write about life with my three boys and our adventures living in the PNW, and because life isn't always sunshine and rainbows I write about adult-ing/parenting after childhood trauma. I write because I'm called to, not only by the people around me, but by a stirring in my soul that nudges (okay, sometimes shoves) me to do so. I hope you find something that you can connect to here. I'm excited to share this crazy, awesome life with you and I hope you'll share your voice here, too. Read More…
