Here we go! We are getting ready to head out on a pretty epic road trip. We’d like to visit as many national parks as we can before our boys are off living their own lives. We know that there’s going to be some tough ones (oh, hey Alaska!) but we’re ready to do as many as we can.
We’re in the beginning stages of planning for our fall 2020 trip. While this year has been anything but normal, we’re trying to make the best of it around here. Our school district has decided to do distance learning until mid-November and will reassess at a later date to see if we can do a hybrid model instead. Brandon’s company is keeping people working remotely until at least mid-January. I had been accepted to a M.Ed program for this fall but change of plans! I deferred until the spring, we bought a travel trailer (you’ll meet her later), and we’re outta here!
We have our general route mapped but we’re ready to come back home whenever we need if the distance learning isn’t working out (but I am confident we’ll be rock it!). We also are hoping to extend our trip BUT have to be careful because the mountain passes (that we have to go through whichever way we come home) could snow over. We’re newbies at this travel trailer thing and have zero desire to take it over snowy mountains.
We likely will NOT be staying inside the national parks (which is a little bummer) because of distance learning. We are cross-referencing our campgrounds with our hotspots’ service areas to make sure we are well within range so the boys can keep learning. The elementary teachers (1st and 5th grade) we’ve told have been amazing and are definitely willing to be flexible. Our 7th grader will be talking to his teachers soon, but our district has been really amazing and I don’t foresee it being a problem. The parks are so beautiful and we love visiting but they are definitely not known for their internet service.
Here’s a map of our planned destinations and we’ll fill in gaps here and there as we go. Got any interesting spots we should visit on our route?
